She’d said it enough that we were truly excited. In just about each seat you could hear murmurs, what could it be…what’s our surprise? Who knew a family could have so much fun in Las Vegas.
Our driver picked us up from the back of the Luxor one of many hotels on the Las Vegas strip. That’s where we were staying. For some reason I’d been fascinated with seeing the Grand Canyon, and I figured my daughter would get a kick out of it as well.
Nope, but in her defense it was cold. Really cold. Maybe not artic temperatures but we’re from Florida so we were miserable.
She got off the shuttle bus bypassing the huge hole in the ground that attracted visitors from all over the world and went inside the café. For this 13 year old there was no splendor, no magic, absolutely nothing grand about this canyon.
When we got back on the bus our driver told us since we got back early we could have our surprise. Hmmm I had no idea what she had planned.
She turned off the main road and told us we were headed to a senior nursing home to sing karaoke. Huh? I thought to myself I wouldn’t mind skipping the surprise if that’s the case. But it wasn’t. She was joking. She went pass the senior center and before we got to the park she told us that the city built it for the sheep. They live in the mountains right above the houses. Anytime of day people would come out and see the sheep grazing in their yards…
When she stopped the bus we saw them. A park full of sheep! My daughter was so excited she bolted off the bus. The sheep had no problem with us being so close. At one point it looked as if one was posing for us. For my teen who loves animals this was a bit of heaven in the heart of sin city.
